Meet the Team
Ben Metcalfe
My journey in cycling began early — I rode my first mountain bike race at age 7, sneaking onto the start line by lying about my age. From that moment, I was hooked. I progressed through the junior MTB ranks, representing Australia at the Junior World Championships, before transitioning to road cycling, where I earned silver in the U19 National Road Race.
I went on to compete with Team BridgeLane, Australia’s most successful domestic team, where I developed into one of the country’s top young climbers. Racing at this level pushed me to my limits — and at times, beyond them. I experienced firsthand the pressures of elite sport, and eventually faced challenges with binge eating disorder and depression. With the help of a supportive coach and medical team, I worked through those setbacks and returned stronger, going on to win at the NRS level and race in Europe.
These experiences — from the thrill of international competition to the mental and emotional challenges behind the scenes — have shaped my approach as a coach. Over the past four years, I’ve worked with athletes across all levels, sharing practical knowledge and personal insight to help them unlock their full potential.
I’m passionate about creating a supportive, athlete-first environment where performance and wellbeing go hand in hand. My mission is to empower athletes with the tools, mindset, and confidence to pursue their goals — and enjoy the journey along the way.

CAM BUTCHER
I started mountain biking at 12, quickly developing a passion for Cross Country Marathon racing by 14. Despite lacking support and guidance from a coach during my teens, I achieved U19 results in XCM in 2018 and transitioned to road racing where I achieved 6th in the NSW Road Champs as my first Road Race. However, injuries & illness in 2019 led to a diagnosis of Glandular Fever & a severe heart condition, ultimately cutting my racing career short in 2020.
Having received a successful heart transplant in November 2024, I am returning to racing as a para-athlete in MTB, Gravel & Road. My experiences have inspired me to mentor young athletes, ensuring they receive the support & guidance I lacked. My Bachelor's Degree in Health & Physical Education equips me to provide holistic coaching to help athletes reach their cycling ambitions.
My experience in coaching spans four years of coaching junior athletes through providing training plans & 1:1 support, as well as Mountain Bike skills coaching at Oxley College for three years. I have completed research into all aspects of endurance athletes, including a research study, ‘Resilience in Competitive Endurance Athletes’, in 2023.

JOSIE TALBOT
I’m a professional cyclist with years of experience racing on the UCI Women’s World Tour, but my journey started much earlier—representing Australia as a junior and becoming a Junior World Champion on the track. Since then, I’ve raced across the globe: mastering criterium racing in the U.S., earning a professional contract in Europe, and becoming Oceania Champion. One of my proudest moments was lining up at the UCI World Championships in my hometown of Wollongong.
Alongside my racing career, I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychological Science, which has shaped the way I understand and connect with the people I work with. It’s given me a strong foundation in communication, empathy, and behavioural insight. At Seacliff Coaching, I take a holistic, people-first approach, that goes beyond physical training — focusing on the mental skills and self-awareness needed to train with purpose, perform with confidence, and grow through every stage of their journey.
I’m especially passionate about helping women find their strength and confidence in the sport, but I work with athletes of all backgrounds and levels. Whether you’re chasing a national title or tackling your biggest ride yet, I’m here to support your journey and share what I’ve learned about what it truly takes to reach your potential in cycling.
